Immediate needs

Thank you for your interest in helping support our school and clinic’s immediate needs.

FEATURED NEED: Protect our boys and girls from contracting malaria and dengue

Operating a boarding school in the midst of the jungle means that Ak’ Tenamit has to take extra measures to ensure that its students are protected from disease.

Malaria and dengue are no strangers in the humid jungle where Ak’ Tenamit’s boarding school is located.  Our boarding students are most vulnerable to being bitten by a mosquito carrying the diseases at night while they sleep.  To protect our students, each of the 6 dormitories is equipped with mosquito screens.  These screens must be repaired regularly to ensure that our students are not left vulnerable to a disease that would force them to put their education on hold.

The school’s jungle location also lends itself to the possibility of small animals entering the dormitories.  These animals often carry disease (such as rabies) and we must conduct regular maintenance on the doors and roofs to ensure that animals do not enter and spread disease to our students.

The mosquito screens, doors, and roofs are currently in need of repair to ensure that our boys and girls remain healthy and do not contract malaria or rabies.  The cost to repair one dormitory is $220.  The total cost to repair all 6 dormitories is $1,320.  Even a partial donation puts us one step closer to filling this need!
